I don't believe there is an opposition between the figurative and the abstraction. These two artistic orientations do not play in the same league. It's a bit like comparing a car from years 1990 with another years 2000. Figurative painting is a continuation of Renaissance Humanism, she always remains as close as possible to Man (or of the Woman obviously). Figuration is the Art of transcending man and his environment, by bringing color and feelings. An extension of sorts.
L’abstraction, on the contrary, moves away from Humanism to promote only individualism and psychological expression, even psychiatric, of the artist.
