The Destiny of Teresa

Some stories touch me deeply and remind me why I paint. Today I want to share one with you, real and moving, because these magical moments of sharing are what make me happy. This isn't about the market value of a painting, but its emotional value, which is far more precious to me.
A couple who dared to change their life
Once upon a time, in a small village swept by the Atlantic winds, there lived a big-hearted couple who had dared to dream of a different life. Isabelle and Emmanuel had left everything behind (the city, the routine, the certainties) to settle in Ericeira, a place where the horizon seemed endless and a fresh start felt within reach.
During this gentle interlude, Isabelle took up crochet, creating little wonders of thread and colour with her delicate hands. Emmanuel discovered his gifts as a healer and cared for fishermen and for anyone looking for peace. Their life was simple, full of light and love, but material reality soon caught up with their dreams, and they had to think about other paths.
Love at first sight at an open house
Our paths crossed during an open house. Isabelle and Emmanuel stepped into my home, led by their curiosity and sensitivity. Among the paintings on show that day, one caught Isabelle's eye straight away. There was that suspended moment, that tiny shiver: in front of her was "Teresa". They recognised each other and loved each other at first glance. No hesitation, no question, just a clear certainty.
Seeing this budding love, I offered to let her take Teresa home for a while. And so the painting found shelter in their studio, watching over them as they went on looking for meaning and freedom. It was there, a silent witness to their hopes, their doubts and their unshakeable love. But one day, a decision had to be made. Beautiful as their adventure was, they could no longer go on that way. So, with the same strength that had made them leave everything, they chose to rebuild differently.
The reunion
The years went by. Isabelle and Emmanuel rewrote their story and went back to a more conventional life, without ever losing the light inside them. Then, a few days ago, a message from Emmanuel revived this precious bond. He wanted to give Teresa to Isabelle, to give back to her that part of herself that had never stopped being with her.
So I prepared the parcel with a lot of emotion, picturing Isabelle opening it and finally finding her Teresa again. They will never be apart again. It wasn't just a painting, or just an adoption. It was a reunion, a homecoming. And a certainty grew inside me: Teresa had never been meant for anyone else. She was waiting for her soulmate.
Isabelle and Emmanuel, thank you. Thank you for the beauty of your story, for the sincerity of your hearts and for this lesson in love and resilience. Your path inspires me, your bond lights the way. And to Teresa, I whisper a goodbye full of gratitude: be happy, where you have always belonged.
And you?
