Grândola, Vila Morena is the Zeca Afonso song played on the radio in the night of 25 April 1974, the signal for the Carnation Revolution. Living in Portugal, I wanted to paint what that song still carries.
The background is a burning red. Darker tones cross it, laid on with the palette knife, like the voices and footsteps of people walking together towards freedom. A revolution made with carnations instead of bullets.
