Vertical bands, side by side and overlapping: black, a burnished gold, a silver close to anthracite. The composition is free, but each band knows where it stops.
Every section has its own texture, and that is where the light plays. Soulages said that what interested him was not black itself, but the light it gives back. I understand him a little better each time I look at this one.
