New York at night: black, anthracite grey, and small golden squares, like windows still lit in the towers. Behind each one, someone is still awake.
The palette knife left relief in the gold, so it catches the light when you move. When Mondrian lived in New York, he painted Broadway Boogie Woogie in little squares of yellow, red and blue. This is the night version, in gold.
It belongs to my Gold in the Dark collection.
Would you like to see it in person? I welcome visitors to my studio in Ericeira, by appointment: send me a message on WhatsApp.
