World's Fair is a set of 20 square canvases, 40 by 40 cm each. Each one is named after a Universal Exhibition, from London 1851 to Barcelona 1929, those big fairs where countries came to show off their machines, their pavilions and their ideas.
They all speak the same geometric, pop language, with the same blue, yellow, orange and black, so you can hang them in a line, in a block, or in any order. Robert and Sonia Delaunay, with their circles of colour, painted huge murals for the Paris exhibition of 1937. I like to think my series stops just before them.
It belongs to my Pop Seventies collection.
