100X100: 3rd Edition at Torres Novas

100X100: Celebrating Artistic Freedom in Torres Novas

I am thrilled to announce my participation in the 3rd edition of the 100X100 collective painting exhibition, taking place from September 9 to November 25, 2023. This exciting event will be held at the historical Mercado do Peixe (Fish Market) in Torres Novas, a stunning venue that adds depth to our artistic expressions.

The exhibition, organized by Rui Antunes, embraces an open theme, allowing each artist to explore their unique techniques, influences, and compositions. The only requirement is that each artwork must be created on a 100 by 100 cm surface, fostering a sense of unity among the diverse pieces displayed.

For this exhibition, I have chosen to present my painting titled "Lisbon." This abstract work is a heartfelt homage to the renowned Portuguese poet Fernando Pessoa, inspired by his iconic poem about the city: “Lisboa com suas casas de várias cores…” (Lisbon with its houses of various colors). My piece is a vibrant explosion of colors and shapes, capturing the dynamic essence of Lisbon and the complex spirit of Pessoa.

The canvas showcases a visual symphony composed of bold, vivid tones. Reds, yellows, deep blues, and bright greens blend and overlap in a joyful dance, creating an atmosphere filled with energy and vitality. Each color is thoughtfully chosen to reflect the richness and diversity of Lisbon, evoking Pessoa's profound emotions.

Subtly integrated into the background is an orange filigree that hints at the poem's presence, representing the existential angst, solitude, and quest for escape that permeate Pessoa's work. With this creation, I aim to honor him through color and emotion!

The first edition of 100X100 took place in Lisbon in 2017, followed by the second edition in Ericeira in 2021. This year, an impressive lineup of artists will join me, including Sam Abercromby, Josê Coelho, Arnalda Maia, Totonho, Jaime R Ferreira, Armando Luís, and many more.

The exhibition program includes artist talks, live painting sessions, video projections, guided tours, and a catalogue, making it an enriching experience for art enthusiasts.

Entry is free, and the exhibition will be open from Tuesday to Sunday, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM and 2:30 PM to 7:30 PM.

Join us in celebrating creativity, artistic expression, and the vibrant spirit of Lisbon!
