This exhibition took place from 9 September to 25 November 2023. You can find my other exhibitions on my exhibitions page.
From 9 September to 25 November 2023, I took part in the 3rd edition of 100X100, a group painting exhibition held in the historic Mercado do Peixe (the old fish market) in Torres Novas.
One rule: 100 x 100 cm
The exhibition, organised by Rui Antunes, has an open theme: each artist is free to choose their technique, influences and composition. The only rule is the format: every work is painted on a 100 x 100 cm surface, which gives a lovely unity to very different paintings.
The first edition took place in Lisbon in 2017, the second in Ericeira in 2021. This time, I was in the company of Sam Abercromby, José Coelho, Arnalda Maia, Totonho, Jaime R Ferreira, Armando Luís and many others.
My painting "Lisbon", a tribute to Pessoa
I chose to show "Lisbon", an abstract painting in homage to the Portuguese poet Fernando Pessoa, inspired by his poem about the city: "Lisboa com suas casas de várias cores…" (Lisbon with its houses of many colours).
Reds, yellows, deep blues and bright greens blend and overlap, full of energy, like the city itself. I chose each colour to reflect the richness and diversity of Lisbon, and the emotions running through Pessoa's poem.
In the background, a fine orange filigree hints at the poem's presence: the existential angst, the solitude and the longing to escape that run through Pessoa's work. It was my way of honouring him with colour and emotion.
The programme
Around the exhibition: artist talks, live painting, video projections, guided tours and a catalogue. Entry was free, Tuesday to Sunday, from 10 am to 1 pm and from 2:30 pm to 7:30 pm.
Since then, I mostly welcome visitors at my studio in Ericeira, during my Open House days, in spring and early December. You can also browse my abstract paintings online.
