Gold IV is the big sister of the series. At 50 × 50 cm the gold takes up almost all the space: a square block with frayed edges, resting on a border of matte black that holds it like a jewel case.
Up close it turns into a landscape: folds, frozen waves, tiny bubbles, hollows where the shadow slips in. Klimt laid gold leaf on his canvases; here the gold is matter, and you want to touch it. I signed it right in the gold, bottom right.
It belongs to my Gold in the Dark collection, with Gold I, II and III.
