Every summer Juan-les-Pins has its jazz festival by the sea. On an intense fuchsia background I put turquoise blues and a little green, for the Mediterranean water and the bougainvillea.
Small white squares are scattered all over, like notes flying off the stage. Matisse called his book of paper cut-outs Jazz: improvised shapes, pure colour, rhythm. I like to think this canvas is a distant cousin.
