This one comes straight from Wagner's opera, The Flying Dutchman: the ship condemned to sail forever. I painted the depths of the sea in phthalo blue, with dark areas and flashes of light, like what is left of a ship that never came home.
Names are written into the paint, floating in the water like whispers. While painting it, I felt close to those lost stories, sad and beautiful at once. For me it speaks of hard times, and of the quiet victories that come after.
