Magma started with a matte black, very deep. Then the colours came up through it: red, yellow, green and purple, pressed together as if something were boiling underneath.
I like the way the black makes every colour louder. Up close, you see where they meet and mix, and where the black shows through again between them. An 80 × 80 cm square that can hold a big wall on its own.
It belongs to my Colors in Freedom collection. I tell its story in more detail on my blog.
Would you like to see it in person? I welcome visitors to my studio in Ericeira, by appointment: send me a message on WhatsApp.
