Amber is old resin that has held on to the light for millions of years. On this canvas, burnt orange, deep red and a little green melt into each other on black, with flakes of gold scattered over them like stars.
Van Gogh wrote: "I often think that the night is more alive and more richly coloured than the day." With the gold catching the light, this painting is on his side.
It belongs to my Colors in Freedom collection.
